Who the Devil?!

Joseph Howard Allard; experienced Designer / Artist / Inventor that has been a professional in the Toy and Comic Book Industries for over fourteen years.

I should know you why?

I began my Professional career working for Marvel Comics where I honed my Color Design and Digital Coloring skills while working on all of Marvel Comics monthly titles; coloring everything from covers to interior pages, advertising and trading cards.

Next, I made my way into the Toy/ Gift industry working for Applause as a product designer. I worked my way through the ranks and was promoted to Creative Manager / Head Designer on the Star Wars Episode I product line.

You do what, now?

After working full time for over eight years, I have stepped out on my own and made the move to Freelance Designer/ Inventor. Current services include: Toy Design and Development, Character Design, Promotional Designs, Digital Painting and Creative Consultation.

Hire you why?

If you are looking for creative off the wall thinking on an important project, innovative product designs, or professional Illustrations and digital coloring, you've come to the right place.

Cut to the chase, I offer all of the same services as a Creative Agency or Design House, at a fraction of the cost. I'll help you brainstorm new product ideas and take your project from "concept to completion"; from sketch to full color presentation boards.

You charge how much?!

If you would like a quote on an upcoming project, please email me with information on the job. I generally charge by the hour, but a per diem rate can be negotiated on larger jobs. If you have a limited budget, I'm confident we can work something out.

What happened to Sideshowjoe.com?

Sideshow joe was a nickname, and my first website address. There is a company called Sideshow Collectibles, so I decided to search for a new domain name. I came up with Design Devil, catchy, and also descriptive of what services I offer, so I went with it.

Why is most of the work on your site so "Last Year"?

Due to Nondisclosure and Confidentiality agreements with past employers and current clients, I am prevented from posting most of my work, especially anything recent. As soon as projects are Declassified, I will post them in the gallery.

How come your web site is not all fancy like?

If you check out my Resume, you'll see that websites are one of the few things that I do not design. I learned enough Dreamweaver to create a simple site for the sole purpose of showing my work to prospective clients.

How do I get into the Toy/ Comic Book Industry?

This is probably the number one question I receive. Hard work, talent and good timing seem to have gotten me here. First, you'll get no where unless your talent matches, or even better, surpasses what you see out there. So practice, study and learn as much as you can about the industry. If you have talent, passion and a little luck, you've got a good chance.
